Tools for Career Exploration and Job Searching

The purpose of FHYouth.org is to support the job and career development of youth in Franklin and Hampshire Counties, and the North Quabbin area. We have included information for parents, teachers, and the community, but the heart of our work is centered on jobs and careers for young people.

Getting a Job

Most of the young people we meet or hear from are looking for a job, often their first job. The process of getting a job is usually a mystery until you’ve been through it. There are steps you need to take and things you need to think about (and understand) to be successful. Our Get a Job page will walk you through what you need to know!

Finding a Career

You’ve probably been asked “What do you want to be when you grow up?” since you were about five. Often the jobs we think of are those that are easily visible to us: firefighter, nurse, video game designer, etc.

Over the years we have seen many changes in what people think they want to do based on what they see on TV. For a long time many people wanted to be a forensic detective, a few years ago young people started saying they wanted to be in Real Estate. That was a surprise, but when you think of all those house flipping shows these days it makes sense!

The world of work is changing and there are lots of careers out there, it’s important to go exploring and consider how your personality and skills match up to professions so you can plan ahead!
